Director General (International)
Ms. Ambika Sharma is the Director General International, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). She heads FICCI's International and other divisions including HR. She steers the agenda for the Forum of Parliamentarians and special initiatives including economic diplomacy, projects with diaspora and strategic and multilateral policy matters.
Nearly three decades of association with key divisions of FICCI, she has led some of the most innovative and worthwhile endeavours of domestic and international teams including the Americas, Europe, Asia Pacific and Oceania, Africa and Foreign Trade Policy Division.
Currently, as Director General International, she is responsible for taking forward FICCI's international agenda and dovetailing it with domestic strategy. In this context, she works closely with the Government of India, representing FICCI at bilateral and regional level deliberations and leads conceptualization and implementation of mega programs at national and international levels.
She has been instrumental in engaging with Indian diaspora, including organizing, in partnership with MEA, the Know India Programme (KIP) in 2016 for diaspora youth. Over the years, she has been leading successful bids for the Pravasi Bhartiya Divas – the latest edition being in Jan 2015 on the centenary of Mahatma Gandhi's return to India. She has also successfully created an international interface for regional and state chapters of FICCI, in close alignment with government initiatives, to reach out to Non-Resident Indians to engage in development work in their home states.
In sync with evolving requirements of Indian industry, she has been instrumental in setting up the Multilateral, International Policy and Strategy Division at FICCI. She has also directed training & capacity building programs and initiated SME platforms for Indian industry across the globe. She has been instrumental in forming partnerships with Employers' Federations, industry bodies and foundations worldwide and played a key role in fructifying FICCI's strategic initiatives such as establishment of Invest India, organizing India Shows, FICCI-USAID Millennium Alliance, FICCI's partnership with the BOAO Forum for Asia, and conducting bilateral CEO's Forums on behalf of Government of India.
Her academic background comprises a Post Graduate Degree in Business Economics from India's prestigious Delhi University - where she graduated summa cum laude with a Gold Medal. She has participated in a number of Executive Training programs conducted by EU. She has also been nominated by FICCI for senior leadership management programs at institutions such as XLRI, Jamshedpur.
