India‘s Medical Device sector is projected at 6 Billion USD and is 1.3% of the global medical devices market. It is projected to be fast growing sector at 15% p.a. up to 2020. A large chunk (around 70%) of the requirement is met by imports. This distinct nature serves as a challenge as well as an opportunity for the industry. The role of technology in healthcare services has greatly enhanced the role of medical technologies in the ecosystem. A lot of focus has also shifted to prevention and integrated services which are based on IT and telecom .
Ministry of Health & Family Welfare will be hosting the 22nd edition of AHWP (Asian Harmonization Working Party) in 2017 from December 4-8, 2017. The 2017 edition of the programme will focus on ways to harmonize the medical device regulations in the Asian and other regions. It will also focus on Major regulatory and policy updates on the medical device sector and the initiatives taken by the Government of India in the Medical Device Sector.
The conference would bring together all the stakeholders of the Indian Medical Device Industry and key international players on one platform and would aim to evolve a pragmatic roadmap for medical device sector development.
