Bringing Sustainable Development Home - FICCI FLO Ahmedabad
Country and Politics , Jun 10, 2019
The Swaraj workshop organized by FICCI Flo Ahmedabad is intended as a transformative experience that alters the perception of its participants towards existing notions of sustainable development and reintroducing to their local and traditional culture. Five key elements that constitute a culture as per Indian traditional knowledge – ‘Dialects, Diets, Dresses, Dwelling, Dances & songs’.
In this workshop participants perform activities as individuals or in groups with the intention of discovering for themselves, relation between local climate and a particular D in the region where they come from and discover that all five elements have evolved from the local climate. In line with the Paris Agreement’s vision for sustainable Lifestyle, this will allow local people to be proud of their local culture. Such a perspective can allow villages and tribal areas to not live like secondary citizens to the so called ‘educated elite’.
For this workshop speaker is Mr. Gaurav Shorey. The chief guest of this workshop is Mr. Kartikeya Sarabhai. He is one of the world’s leading environment educators and a dedicated community builder. Mr. Sarabhai is the founder Director of the Centre for Environment Education (CEE) headquartered in Ahmedabad with 40 offices across India, Trustee of the Sabarmati Ashram Preservation and Memorial Trust and also the recipient of 2016 International Brandwein Medal by Brandwein Institute and India’s highest civilian awards, Padma Shri in 2012 by the Government of India. He is the chair-holder of the UNESCO chair on Education for sustainable development and the Human Habitat.
The workshop will be on 10th June 2019, 3 to 6 PM at The Fern Hotel, Ahmedabad.
