Overview:

Manufacturing is undergoing a global upheaval with the infusion of digital technology, and is in a transition phase moving from physical to cyber-physical systems with the advent of Industry 4.0. Industry 4.0 is the current trend of automation and data exchange in manufacturing technologies. It includes cyber-physical systems, the Internet of things and cloud computing.

It is important for Indian manufacturing to gear up for the future by adopting several advanced manufacturing trends that are going to change the manufacturing landscape in times to come. Indian manufacturing sector contributes over 16 to 17 percent to our GDP and we still have a long way to achieve 25 percent share of manufacturing in GDP as targeted. Indian manufacturing sector needs to leverage advance manufacturing technologies to achieve higher efficiency and quality.

To tap the opportunities FICCI has taken up an initiative to constitute a committee on Industry 4.0.

This committee aims to focus on creating awareness about this new technology amongst the industry and also support the Government in developing roadmap for the industry.
