Overview:

FICCI Textiles Committee is working towards the holistic development of textiles industry in India. The objective of the committee is to work along with various stakeholders representing wide variety of sub-sectors of textiles industry like cotton, man-made, apparels, wool, silk, handlooms, Jute, handicrafts etc. The committee actively interacts with the Government for policy issues of the sector.

Facilitating Knowledge Sharing and Networking

FICCI has been at the forefront of facilitating knowledge sharing in technical textiles. Conferences are being organised under the brand name Technotex since 2008 for technical textiles sector. These conferences are being organised in areas like standards, meditex, geotex, agrotex, protex etc.

Standards Setting

Lack of standards has been a serious impediment for development of the technical textiles sector in the country. FICCI has been working closely with Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for formulation of standards on technical textiles. FICCI jointly with Ministry of Textiles and BIS organised a Seminar on "Role of Standards in Promotion of Technical Textiles" to identify the standards which are urgently required by industry for development of the sector. A list of such standards was prepared and sent to BIS. Six standards have been printed and sent for notification and another 15 draft standards are being finalized.

Facilitating Linkages with Institutional Buyers

FICCI jointly with Ministry of Textiles organises Buyer Seller Meetings on Technical Textiles to apprise the industry about the needs of institutional buyers and to bridge the knowledge gap between them. Buyer Seller Meetings have been organised in the past with Institutional Buyers like Army, Navy, Air Force, Delhi Police, Border Security Force, CISF, CRPF, Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS), Dr R M L Hospital, Border Roads Organisation (BRO), National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), Central Road Research Institute (CRRI), Indian Roads Congress (IRC), Railways & Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO), Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Central Public Works Department & PWD, National Committee on Plasticulture Applications in Horticulture (NCPAH), Haryana Agriculture University and ICAR etc.
