Upcoming data protection law will make the country future-ready: Maharashtra IT Secy. at CyberComm 2018

MUMBAI, 23 April, 2018. Mr. S.V.R. Srinivas, Principal Secretary, Information Technology Department, Government of Maharashtra and Chairman, Maharashtra IT Corporation Ltd said here today that the upcoming data protection law will make the entire country and its citizens future-ready. Mr. Srinivas was speaking at the inaugural session of CyberComm 2018 where he highlighted the digital initiatives undertaken by the state.
CyberComm 2018, organised by FICCI in cooperation with the Government of Maharashtra and Maharashtra Cyber, aimed at fostering a greater interest in new technologies and security and provided a forum to exchange views on the challenges and the required legal framework. The seminar was supported by Cyberjure Consulting.
Mr. Brijesh Singh, Special IG-Cyber, Maharashtra Police, spoke on Maharashtra's journey towards being a leading state in opening a cyber crime cell. "As a country, we will have to build our own cyber security, own encryption, own networks and own hardware to safeguard our business interest and organizations like FICCI have a huge role to play in policy making required for safeguarding our economy," he said.
While moderating the session, Mr. Kaustubh Dhavse, Joint Secretary and OSD to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, stressed the need for securing the network ecosystem in view of the increasing usage of new technologies like AI and IoT.
Mr. Balsing Rajput, Superintendent of Police-Cyber, Maharashtra emphasised the need for a legal framework in the rise of new technologies and security challenges in the online world. He urged organisations to come forward and register cases with the law and enforcement agencies and help create a preventive mechanism against cyber crimes.
Mr. Ambrish Bakaya, Co-Chairman, FICCI ICT & Digital Economy Committee, highlighted the multi-stakeholder effort in the fight against cyber crime and the important role FICCI in this regard.
The seminar witnessed the participation of experts from across the nation, representing the leadership of digital transformation, cyber security, artificial intelligence, blockchain technology, machine learning, and data analytics insights. Discussions revolved around collaboration on cyber policy issues; building threat proof networks; reforming security measures with advent of new technologies that will help in building smart and secure network.
