Nov 26, 2020
NEW DELHI, 26 November 2020:Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (IC), Ministry of DoNER; Minister of State in the PMO; Minister of State, Dept of Atomic Energy and Department of Space, Govt of India today said the virtue of this (COVID-19) crisis has been that it has made us awakened about our subtle resilience and aptitude for scientific behaviours along with our shortcomings.
Addressing Digital Infrastructure and Skilling during the Global R&D Summit 2020 organized by FICCI and DST, Dr Singh taking a cue from India's performance in the past few months, said, "India is now ready to take a leading role in the global arena post- COVID; not only in the healthcare sector but also in building the post-COVID world economy."
Dr Singh further said that the government has given priority to sustainable collaboration between the industry and academia, the public and private sector, especially in the space sector for Ease of Doing Business and Ease of Living. "This was one area that was taboo for the private sector and recently the decision was taken to open up the space sector for participation in certain areas. This will gradually help in broadening the industrial base and set up a supply chain for advanced technologies," he added.
"Our space technology had become an inherent part of our infrastructural development tools as space technology has reached every household," Dr Singh added.
The Minister also launched a 24-week Science meets Industry Series at the event. The newly launched series is a first-of-its-kind initiative to harness and translate India's tremendous R&D capability into products for real social-economic impact development. Under this initiative, FICCI will be conducting a series of online interactive sessions to embolden partnerships between R&D institutions and industry.
"This is the best time to give a push to such initiatives. The timing is right and is happening at the right part of the world," Dr Singh said.
Mr CP Gurnani, CEO & Managing Director, Tech Mahindra said that we all look for a North Star with a purpose to create a product, solve a problem, and to make an existing process better. "Innovation by itself differentiates between a successful organization versus an average organization. The government has continued to invest in healthcare and innovation for which the industry is thankful for," he said.
Mr Gopal Vittal, MD & CEO, Bharti Airtel said that the Prime Minister's vision for a Digital India can be achieved only through a deep understanding of the customers and the problems to solve for them. "To do that we have to able to adapt the mindset of our teams, build the right skills, and do it in an agile way. We will deliver what India deserves when we redefine our purpose to serve the needs of every Indian. And in doing so we have to reimagine our businesses," he said.
"There is a massive opportunity to serve India better and our industry is uniquely positioned to deliver this through digital technology, science, and partnership," Mr Vittal added.
Mr Jagdish Mitra, Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Growth, Tech Mahindra said that the discussions that we really ought to have is what can businesses, imbibing more science & technology, do in the delivery of services and products to make sure that we can foster and leap forward.
