Govt working in full steam to develop infrastructure for inner cooperation & connectivity with friendly neighbouring nations: Mansukh Mandaviya

Government of India today said that India has always focused on developing bilateral and mutual trade, economic and security ties with friendly countries and maritime passage in the region and beyond.

Addressing the ministerial session of the Maritime India Summit 2021, organised by the Ministry of State for Ports, Shipping & Waterways (I/C), Government of India, Mr Mandaviya said, "The Govt of India is working in full steam to develop further infrastructure for inner cooperation and connectivity with Nepal, Bhutan and Myanmar. I am keen to engage with all participating countries and identify mutual areas of cooperation in the maritime trade and commerce domain."

Mr Basant Nembang, Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Nepal said, "The Nepal Govt is laying stress on facilitating maritime support. We are currently in the process of preparing and enacting maritime related policies and acts. Similarly, India and Nepal have agreed to use inland waterway routes to facilitate the maritime vessels and manage the internal waterways facility."

Mr Oleg N Ryazantsev, Deputy Minister of Industry & Trade Russia said that the Russian Govt is focussing on making civil shipbuilding a key area for industrial cooperation between Russian enterprises and foreign partners, with India holding an important place among them.

Mr Choriyev Jasurbek Ergashevich, Deputy Minister of Transport, Republic of Uzbekistan said that the Republic of Uzbekistan pays great attention to the development of effective strategies and solutions that allow optimising transport cost when introducing international cargo transportation by providing quality, safety, speed of freight and passenger traffic.

HE Mr Lars Andreas Lunde, State Secretary for Climate and Environment, Norway said that India is a strong partner for Norway and that both countries enjoy a long-standing relationship. Elaborating on the India Norway Ocean Dialogue, HE Mr Lunde said that both nations are closely collaborating on the Ocean Economy and the SDGs and to boost bilateral trade.

Annick Girardin, Minister of Marine Affairs, France said that both India and France are firmly attached to the United Nations convention on the Law of the Sea. 'We wish to develop our maritime and port infrastructure in a lasting, transparent, financially sustainable way while respecting the sovereignty of States. It is therefore natural for France to work with India on the Blue Economy,' she said.

Mr Sanjay Bandopadhyaya, Additional Secretary Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Government of India noted that as a run up to the summit, the Govt of India has signed nearly 500 Memorandums of Undertakings for USD 47 billion, which will unfold with the investors investing in the next 10 years.

Mr Dilip Chenoy, Secretary General, FICCI thanked the ministers and officials for their support and areas of partnership with India Maritime India Summit 2021. "I am sure that working together with all the countries the maritime sector cooperation can be a key driver of economic growth not only in India but globally as well. We value your thoughts for partnerships with India and we look forward to taking these partnerships forward," he said.
