Awareness on Ayurveda could play important role in meeting healthcare needs of global community: V Muraleedharan, MoS, External Affairs & Parliamentary Affairs

Need to create common goals, engage in constant dialogues to create a roadmap for the globalization of Ayurveda: Shripad Yesso Naik, MoS, Defence

NEW DELHI, 19 March 2021: Mr V Muraleedharan, Minister of State for External Affairs & Parliamentary Affairs, Govt of India today said that the government is committed to make India the world leader of integrative medicine with the rich medical heritage ready to adapt to newer situations. This will be done by exploring possibilities and application of integrative medicine; by enabling evidence-based practices; by deepening research, he added.

Addressing the virtual valedictory session of '4th Global Ayurveda Festival Conference & Expo', organized by FICCI, Mr Muraleedharan said, "We need to be focused in making Ayurveda play a major role in nation building also contributing to meet the developmental goals of the global community.

He further stated that the world is today convinced about the healing potential of Ayurveda. We need to rededicate ourselves to work with passion and perseverance for the entire humanity to promote Ayurveda.

"We need to be aware of the role Ayurveda could play in meeting health care needs of the global community and we will create a roadmap to popularize Ayurveda globally by promoting Wellness Tourism as an Indian specialty," added Mr Muraleedharan.

"We need to establish a realistic and mutually contributing sastra-science interface and project Ayurveda driven health care system as a model to the world," noted Mr Muraleedharan. 

Mr Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of State for Defence, Govt of India said that Ayurveda is in a state of transition. It is meant to evolve as a global healthcare system and has all the potentials needed for it. "Ayurveda community should work collectively towards this goal. The government will be there to provide guidance and support to make that happen," he added.

Mr Naik further stated that India has the potential to become the global destination for the seekers of health and well-being. "The lessons learned from managing COVID-19 and post COVID conditions in Ayurveda are quite significant for the whole world. The low mortality rate and high recovery rate of COVID-19 in India is already debated among health system researchers. It is our traditional medical systems, especially Ayurveda, that makes this potential unique and possible. The Ministry of AYUSH is committed to the cause and has evolved schemes to make quality Ayurveda education, service and products available across the country and also accessible to the people," he added.

Mr Subhrakant Panda, Vice President, FICCI and MD, Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys Ltd said that FICCI has been at the forefront of nurturing Ayurveda and Yoga. "FICCI organises International Summit on AYUSH - International Arogya, with the aim of promoting the Traditional Systems of Medicine and Wellness of India at a Global level," he added.

Dr GG Gangadharan, President, CISSA & Secretary General, Global Ayurveda Festival; Dr Madhavan Kutty Varrier, Working Chairman, Global Ayurveda Festival; Dr Jayan Damodaran, Scientific Committee Convenor, Global Ayurveda Festival also shared their perspective on promoting Ayurveda not just in India but across the world.
