FICCI Health Services Committee condemns abuse and violence against medical professionals
Apr 01, 2022
NEW DELHI, 01 April 2022: FICCI's Health Services Committee has strongly condemned the harassment faced by Dr Archana Sharma and her family in Rajasthan. Not only the doctors but the entire healthcare fraternity has been once again shaken by the behaviour of the people against the medical professionals who have been dedicating their lives towards saving lives of others.
In case of mis-happenings due to medical reasons, it is not justified to blame the treating doctors. Such acts cause insurmountable harm to the community and deflate the healthcare community, who only recently, have proven their mettle during the COVID pandemic. It is also essential for the law to support and provide appropriate and adequate protection to the medical professionals in such circumstances.
While Dr Sharma's suicide has sparked a nationwide debate on the safety of doctors at their workplaces, this is not the first incident. There have been many instances of abuse and violence against the doctors, over the years, across the country.
The fear, ostracization and emotional turmoil has led a young doctor to take her life, which is indeed an extreme step. Although it is not possible to compensate the loss of a life, it is necessary that the case of Dr Sharma be investigated properly, and justice be served. The community needs to prove itself by supporting all healthcare professionals.
