Prime Minister Narendra Modi Inaugurates the Disaster Risk Reduction Exhibition during the 3rd session of National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction

NEW DELHI, 11 March 2023: Hon'ble Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi yesterday inaugurated the exhibition held under the 3rd session of National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (NPDRR) organised jointly by Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt of India, National Disaster Management Authority, National Institute of Disaster Management, National Disaster Response Force at the Vigyan Bhavan.

The two-day exhibition will showcase products and services in the area of Disaster Risk Reduction like fire & safety, relief, rescue, rehabilitation, health and medical preparedness, emergency preparedness, early warning systems, GIS and telecommunications, Satellite Systems, Space technologies, UAVs and Unmanned vehicles etc.

Mr Subhrakant Panda, President, FICCI said, "Building on local capacities & initiatives is among the 10-point agenda of Hon'ble PM Shri Narendra Modi's vision for disaster risk reduction. Formulation of National Disaster Plan with 360-degree integration of all departments has helped to build capacities at the grassroot levels. FICCI is delighted to partner with MHA for the exhibition on Disaster Risk Reduction showcasing innovative technologies and solutions."

The exhibitors include both private and public sector companies along with start-ups, Research and Development organisations like ISRO, DRDO, CSIR, Labs and several IITs.

FICCI is the industry partner to the Government of India for this important initiative for showcasing the expertise that Indian Industry and other stakeholders have in the area of Disaster Reduction. The theme for this year's discussion and exhibition is 'Building Local Resilience in a changing climate.'

FICCI has been working with the Government and the industry to ensure ways to mitigate the impact of disasters, increase preparedness, a quick response and recovery in times of a disaster like floods, cyclones etc. FICCI is also working on special projects for minimising effects of drought by use of innovative technologies and novel farming practices.

Additionally, COVID-19 showed to the world the havoc that biological disaster can bring to the world.  To minimize the risk for business and for the welfare of all, a policy change is required for biological disaster management and FICCI proposes to draft a policy that will help minimize the risk for stake holders.

Further, the exhibition will continue till March 13, 2023 and will be opened for school and college students, as decided by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
