West Bengal has vast investment opportunities; ‘Bengal Global Business Summit 2023’ to showcase state’s potential: Dr Amit Mitra

NEW DELHI, 22 August 2023: Dr Amit Mitra, Principal Chief Advisor to the Hon’ble Chief Minister and Finance Department, Government of West Bengal today while addressing an interactive session with Diplomats from over 40 countries as a precursor to the ‘Bengal Global Business Summit, 2023’, said that investment opportunities in West Bengal are vast with the emergence of game changers such as coal, shale gas, natural gas, and coal bed methane. West Bengal is leading hub for Foundry, forging, casting, cement, leather etc. Come, join us at the Global Business Summit to witness the state's potential, he added.
The Government of West Bengal is organizing the 7th edition of Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) which is scheduled on November 21 – 22, 2023 in Kolkata. As a prelude to the Summit, the diplomats’ roundtable was organized to deliberate on the trade and investment opportunities in the State of West Bengal and further strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation.
Mr Subhrakant Panda, President, FICCI said, “West Bengal has existing and upcoming deep seaports, largest warehousing capacity in Eastern India, and second largest cold storage capacity in the country; the world’s second largest coal deposit is also located in the State. The Bengal Global Business Summit 2023 will highlight the State’s potential and capabilities cutting across several sectors.”
Ms Vandana Yadav, Chairperson & Managing Director, West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation, and Principal Secretary, Department of Industry, Commerce & Enterprises, Government of West Bengal delivered the opening remarks. Mr Raju Mishra, Joint Secretary, Department of Industry, Commerce & Enterprises, Government of West Bengal made a presentation showcasing the investment opportunities in West Bengal.
Diplomats from Europe, CIS, SAARC, Arab & Middle East, Africa, ASEAN, LAC, Central & East Asia and several other regions also shared their perspective on the possible areas of mutual collaboration to strengthen bilateral ties.
Mr C Rajasekhar, OSD (States), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India also addressed the session.
Bengal Global Business Summit 2023 envisions bringing together corporate leaders, business delegations, entrepreneurs, academia, and think – tanks from around the globe with the purpose of making strategic and business alliances as well as to deliberate on the industrial ecosystem and business friendly initiatives of the State. The 7th edition of the Summit will have Plenary Session, Parallel Global Conferences, Sectoral Sessions, Country Sessions, B2Bs and B2Gs meeting to expand network and meeting potential partners. The two-day Summit will be an excellent opportunity to promote closer engagement and explore the possibilities of mutual collaboration.
Over the years, BGBS has observed a growing international presence. BGBS 2022 had 14 Partner Countries including Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Finland, Germany, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Malaysia, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Republic of Korea, and UK. BGBS 2022 witnessed 500 international delegates from 42 countries including Political & Business Dignitaries, Ambassadors and High Commissioners.
The overwhelming response of over 40 countries participating in the interactive session is an indication of global interest in West Bengal's economy, investment potential and inclusive governance.
