Situated strategically at the heart of Asia, Afghanistan is a land bridge connecting South Asia with Central Asia, Eurasia and the Middle East. Emerging from twenty five years of conflict, Afghanistan, one of the poorest countries of the world, had performed better than the strong performers among the comparable countries in terms of broad macroeconomic indicators.
