Overview
CBRN is the acronym for nuclear, radiological, biological and chemical agents. These biological agents have the ability to cause infection or diseases. CBRN attacks also is about use of toxic chemicals that can poison entire surroundings or it may be material from nuclear fission or fusion, or other radioactive material with the potenation to affect human health. These are generally hazardous materials, either naturally occurring or artificially produced, which can have significant adverse effects on human wellbeing, including severe illness and death, depending on the nature of the agent and the circumstances of exposure.
This Sensitization Programme and Mock Drill on Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Disaster Risk aims to apply a holistic approach in understanding the CBRN Risk and devising Preparedness and Mitigation Strategies. This is based on the tenets of the National Disaster Management Guidelines on various facets of CBRN disasters/ emergencies, on Medical Preparedness and Mass Casualty Management, and Incident Response System which are designed to convert our capacities in terms of human resources and supportive infrastructure so as to be able to respond effectively in the hour of need. Since Individual Preparedness is an important element of our Nation’s strategy of Community Based Disaster Preparedness, and accordingly, this programme has been designed to impart the basic knowledge to prepare for and respond instantly to protect their own health and safety, perhaps their own lives.
