ATA Carnet is an International Uniform Customs document issued in 81 countries, including India, which are parties to the Customs Convention on ATA Carnet. The ATA Carnet permits the duty-free temporary admission of goods into a member country without the need to raise customs bonds, pay duties, or fulfil other customs formalities in one or a number of foreign countries. UN TIR Carnet is an International Customs Transit document that facilitates the international movement of goods by road or intermodal across the borders of countries that have ratified the TIR Convention, while offering high security. It streamlines border procedures, reducing the administrative burden for customs authorities and transport and logistics companies. It cuts border waiting times significantly, saving time and money, and also represents a guarantee for customs duties and taxes and traffic in transit, as well as eliminates payments of duties and taxes en route. FICCI has been appointed by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC), Ministry of Finance, Government of India, as the Sole National Issuing and Guaranteeing Association (NIGA) for the operation of both the ATA Carnet and TIR systems in India.
