AYUSH

Sector header

The Ayush industry in India is currently undergoing a significant transition. Buoyed by the growing global and domestic demand and enabled by strong support to regulatory, R&D, and backend infrastructure by the Ministry of Ayush, the sector has shown tremendous growth in the last few years.  With a turnover of US$ 18.1 billion in 2020, the market size of the Indian Ayush industry as a whole has grown by 17 percent during 2014-2020. During the same period, different product segments have grown at a much higher rate than the overall industry. The wide acceptability of Ayurveda, along with other traditional medicinal practices, has given a shot in the arm to the Ayush sector globally. The India Ayush sector is estimated to have a market size of USD 23 billion by this year. Ayush healthcare services play an important role in the healthcare ecosystem and hold substantial potential to channel the socio-economic dimensions of the country. Extensive research, training, and teaching are undertaken in each of the systems to facilitate their growth and contribute significantly to the public healthcare outcomes of the country.

FICCI has been actively supporting the growth and development of the Ayush sector through its dedicated AYUSH Committee, which serves as a key industry platform for policy advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and sectoral advancement. The Committee works closely with government bodies, industry leaders, practitioners, researchers, and academia to strengthen the Ayush ecosystem by recommending policy and regulatory reforms, fostering innovation, and promoting the integration of traditional systems of medicine into mainstream healthcare.

The Committee plays an important role in facilitating dialogue between industry and government, advancing research and evidence-based practices, organizing conferences, seminars, workshops, and knowledge-sharing forums, and promoting India's Ayush strengths at both national and international levels. Through its initiatives, the Committee seeks to enhance the credibility, accessibility, and global acceptance of AYUSH systems and products.

Some of the key initiatives undertaken by the FICCI Ayush Committee include:

• Facilitating national and international collaborations and partnerships to promote the global expansion of the Ayush sector.
• Providing recommendations to policymakers and regulatory authorities to strengthen the policy framework and create an enabling environment for practitioners, manufacturers, service providers, and consumers.
• Promoting research, innovation, standardization, and evidence generation to enhance the scientific credibility and acceptance of Ayush systems.
• Organizing industry consultations, conferences, workshops, and knowledge forums to address emerging opportunities and challenges in the sector.
• Supporting initiatives aimed at positioning India as a global leader in traditional medicine, wellness, and holistic healthcare.
