The furniture sector has been identified by the Government of India as a priority area for strengthening the country’s industrial competitiveness. India is well placed to realise this potential, supported by a skilled workforce, availability of raw materials, a large and growing domestic market, and the presence of major global buyers. Building on these inherent advantages, the sector has the potential to position India among the top three global players in furniture manufacturing and trade.
In this context, the FICCI Furniture Committee was constituted in April 2020, bringing together leading manufacturers, exporters, retailers and other stakeholders to contribute to this national objective. The Committee works with Central and State Governments, including the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, to identify opportunities, promote furniture manufacturing hubs and investment, and strengthen the sector’s competitiveness. It is also aligned with the SCALE Committee in advancing initiatives for sectoral growth.
Members of the Committee include Obeetee, Hettich India, IKEA, Wooden Street, CL Gupta Exports, Buying Agents Association, Merino Industries, Sarva Foam, Hafele India, JSV Group, Omega QMS, Featherlite, Urban Ladder, Iota Furniture, Little Nap Subhav India, Recliners India, Furniture Kraft International.
The Committee engages regularly with Government, industry and other stakeholders on key issues affecting the sector, including raw material availability, building manufacturing scale, logistics costs, skill development, capacity utilisation, ease of doing business, standards and certification. It also facilitates knowledge exchange, industry collaboration and international business linkages, with a focus on strengthening the domestic furniture ecosystem and enhancing India’s competitiveness in global markets.
