West Bengal offers a growing and vibrant market, young and skilled work force, robust physical and social infrastructure, improved work culture and business friendly environment. The GSDP for the state for 2023-24 (at current prices) was projected to be INR 17.19 lakh crore, amounting to a growth of 10.6% over 2022-23.
With the third largest road network, two international airports, and two major ports, West Bengal is positioned as a major hub on the crucial trade route to Southeast Asia and ASEAN countries. It serves as a gateway to a vast population exceeding 300 million, encompassing the entirety of East and Northeast India, and also facilitates entry to the landlocked neighbouring nations of Nepal and Bhutan.
Focus sectors of the state include Manufacturing; Infrastructure; Agri; Health; Education & Skills; Tourism; International trade & logistics; IT & ITeS; and Creative economy.
With 9 million enterprises, employing 13 million people, West Bengal ranks second in India for MSMEs. Four upcoming industrial and economic corridors, and the discovery of the largest coal block, coal bed methane, natural gas and Shale Gas are expected to be game changers in the state.
FICCI West Bengal State Council was setup in Kolkata in 2004.
