Selection and operation of Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) and Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) systems pose complex, interlinked challenges for the industry. Industries must match schemes to variable influent chemistry and downstream disposal constraints. Miss-sized units, inappropriate technology choices, or lack of contingency for seasonal or process-driven fluctuations lead to chronic underperformance, frequent interventions, and higher lifecycle costs.

Operational issues such as dynamic pollutant loads, corrosion and scaling aggressively affect equipment longevity and performance. Digital technologies and AI offer solutions, real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance and process optimization.
 
FICCI through its Water, Wastewater Management, Water Auditing, Water Neutrality Studies have been supporting Indian industries since last decade. FICCI has in-house Certified Water Auditors certified by CGWA, MoJS,GoI. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) directions on installation of online continuous effluents monitoring systems (OCEMS) to monitor pH, TSS, COD, BOD etc. further demands fool-proof operations of the wastewater treatment plants irrespective of main plant operations & process upset conditions.
 
With a sole objective to empower the professionals with the "Knowledge" required for this segment of water & wastewater management and how newer technologies could support industries in reducing their operational costs, FICCI is organizing a Technical Meet on ‘Design, Operational Strategies for Sustainable Wastewater Treatment and ZLD Systems' on Nov 26-27, 2026 at Empires Hotel, Shaheed Nagar, Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
