Green Shipping & Ports: Unlocking Opportunities for a Sustainable Maritime Future

March 2024 | Transport Infrastructure

The FICCI-PwC Knowledge Report outlines India’s maritime sustainability efforts, including Green Port Guidelines, green vessel development, and creation of a green hydrogen hub. It presents a comprehensive view of the transformative initiatives like India’s Green Voyage programme with IMO, policy measures, and the need for a centralised decarbonisation cell. It also emphasises incentivising green practices, boosting manufacturing, fostering innovation via startups, and investing in emission monitoring mechanisms.

The Report comes in alignment with the government’s vision of quadrupling port capacity, establishing clean energy fuel hubs, and driving growth in cruise tourism. Recent achievements such as doubling major ports’ capacity, expanding waterway networks, and advancing solar power adoption further demonstrate India’s dedication to a prosperous and eco-conscious maritime future.
