FICCI mourns the demise of Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh

Dec 27, 2024

NEW DELHI, 27 December 2024: FICCI mourns the loss of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, a brilliant economist and statesman. Dr Singh, who was the architect of India’s economic liberalisation and the father of economic reforms, played a pivotal role in shaping the country's economic destiny. Under his leadership as Finance Minister and later as Prime Minister, India witnessed unprecedented economic growth and emerged as a global economic powerhouse. His visionary policies and unwavering commitment to inclusive growth have left an indelible mark on India's economic landscape.

Dr Singh's association with FICCI spans several decades, during which he consistently engaged with the Indian industry through various FICCI platforms and forums. As Prime Minister, he supported FICCI by providing valuable guidance on industrial growth and economic policies. Dr Singh's profound connection with FICCI was eloquently expressed when he reminded us of our foundational values at our 80th AGM on January 08th, 2007, guiding FICCI to ‘continue to work with that spirit of your founders and stay faithful to their grand vision and aspirations.’ His words underscored FICCI's historical role in nation-building and our patriotic duty to drive India's economic progress. At the same AGM, he said, “I must thank FICCI for the support that has been extended for the many initiatives of our government.”

FICCI extends its deepest condolences to Dr Singh's family, friends, and countless admirers across the globe. His gentle demeanour, intellectual prowess, and unwavering commitment to public service will be deeply missed. The nation has lost a true statesman, and his legacy will forever guide India's economic journey.
