About the Centre for Sustainability Leadership

FICCI has set up the Centre for Sustainability Leadership to assist companies achieve sustainability through appropriate strategies and implementation, involving their value chains, and helping them adopt sustainable pathways through relevant interventions and ecosystem-based approaches that promote sustainable consumption, sustainable production, and sustainable lifestyles.

Activities & Solutions to be Undertaken:

1.  Awareness and Capacity Building Initiatives
  • Expert Talks on Emerging Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) and Sustainability requirements, trends, etc.
  • Training and intensive capacity building on sustainability and climate change
  • Generic, sector-specific, theme-specific training modules, Masterclasses and Fast-track courses.
  • Access to global sustainability leadership programmes
  • Expert workshops on climate change, sustainability, nature-based solutions
2. Bespoke Solutions 
  • Bespoke services for climate change, sustainability, and nature-based solutions
  • Sustainability assessment and evaluation, ESG strategy and implementation, decarbonisation strategy and implementation
3. Start Up Solutions
  • Climate Tech Start-up showcase and Climathon / Curated Programmes for demonstrating innovation.
  • Identifying industry/sector problems and addressing these through selected start-ups
  • Addressing technology needs of SMEs.
  • Facilitating access to investors
4. Knowledge and Information Hub providing information on
  • Global best practices and trends in sustainability, policy developments
  • Financing mechanisms and various government and private incentive schemes

  • Access to world class experts, domain/sectoral expertise and a wide sustainability community
  • Serve as Aggregator Platform for creating a community of climate change and sustainability leaders and practitioners.
Focus Area-SMEs

Mainstreaming sustainability and climate resilience of SMEs is at the core of the sustainable development agenda as it will encompass inclusiveness, strong social and environmental co-benefits, improve the overall health of SMEs, and facilitate progress on the sustainable development goals. 

The Centre will act as a catalyst for building sustainable and climate-resilient SMEs by undertaking the following initiatives:
  • Intensive capacity building and sensitisation efforts. The Centre will provide geographical and sectoral case studies and best practices, opportunities to learn from peers, and access to technology providers.
  • Supporting move towards better compliance with both national and international regulations, in tandem with the evolving regulatory landscape in the future.
  • Improving SME’s understanding of risks and opportunities associated with environment, social, and governance (ESG) norms, and equip them with the skill sets to measure and monitor their risks and ESG performance.
Proposed list of Activities to be Undertaken
  • Initial awareness sessions and capacity building modules for SMEs on ESG
  • Conducting baseline needs assessment survey. 
  • Development of capacity building modules on specific themes
  • Implementation of training programs
  • Conduct endline surveys, monitor & evaluate post survey.
  • Support green entrepreneurship.
Knowledge Partner

ECube Investment Advisors Private Limited, on an exclusive basis. ECube is an Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) focused platform, founded by a team with deep corporate and operating experience. It provides a range of services, including advisory services, supporting investors and companies in developing and deploying ESG strategies and ESG performance improvement. ECube is also leveraging its own networks and partnerships to offer optimal solutions and services to the Centre.

Multiple, would be selected through competitive bidding process.

Execution

The Centre will operate from FICCI headquarters in New Delhi. It will partner extensively with other institutions, consulting companies, and service providers to leverage the best available expertise and knowledge base for developing the Centre’s portfolio of services. The Centre will also benefit from FICCI’s network for its outreach initiatives.

Impact

In five years, the Centre would have created the following impact:
  • Built the largest community of practitioners, experts, and sustainability leaders.
  • Created the most comprehensive repository of knowledge and information on climate change and sustainability for companies.
  • Trained / built capacities of large number of MSMEs.
  • Developed and provided deeper understanding and insights for the top 1000 companies mandated under BRSR.
  • Created awareness on BRSR among thousands of additional companies beyond the top 1000, including members of their value chains.
  • Created extensive dialogues and programmes within 10 carbon intensive sectors – cement, chemicals, fertilizers, FMCG, power, oil and gas, petrochemicals, pulp and paper, steel, textiles. 
  • Built a curated showcase of climate tech start-ups and connected them with FICCI members.
  • Created knowledge partnerships with several organisations/institutions, including consultants, auditors, academic institutions, management schools, R&D centres, etc.
Funding Category

Category 1: Funders offering Rs 2 Cr and above.
  • Nomenclature: Patron
  • To be chair of Steering Committee for lifetime. If more than one patron, chairmanship for two years, on rotational basis.
  • No steering committee meeting to be held in Patron’s absence.
  • Patron’s affirmative vote must for every decision at the Steering Committee.
  • Acknowledgement in Centre’s promotional literature and website.
Category 2: Funder offering Rs 1 -1.75 Cr
  • Nomenclature: Founding Member 
  • Membership of Steering Committee for 7 years for funding of Rs 1 Cr and 9 years for funding of Rs 1.75 cr.
