Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act will improve the business environment in the country: Rashesh Shah, President, FICCI

Jul 26, 2018

NEW DELHI, 26 July 2018: The passage of The Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Bill, 2013, in Parliament, will help in shielding the honest public servants, including bankers, from unnecessary harassment due to the cases filed by the investigating agencies against them, which continue even after their retirement.

"This will help in expediting the decision-making process in the government besides a revival in bank lending," said Mr. Rashesh Shah, President, FICCI.

The new provisions in the Act, including the requirement of the mandatory prior permission from appropriate authorities for pursuing cases against all public servants, and the applicability of the law only if any official has accumulated assets disproportionate to his income or has misappropriated assets, will go a long way in protecting the honest officials from undue harassment, added Mr. Shah.

Along with the timeline of up to two years within which a case will have to be decided, the changes in the law are expected to provide adequate safeguards for the public servants to perform their duties without any apprehension or fear, he added.

Overall, this will help in improving the ease of doing business scenario in the country, said Mr. Shah.
