FICCI- Assam State Council works closely with the State Government & State’s Industry on policy issues, promoting local trade linkages and entrepreneurship, business linkages for the states industries through a focused approach of seeking policy intervention, advocacy and through its own set of initiatives.
FICCI also partnered with the State Government of Assam to organise the first ever Global Investor’s summit organised in Assam ‘Advantage Assam’. Apart form this the state council takes up policy advocacy initiatives and organises a number of events and interactions with a view to facilitate industrial development in the state.
To help guide its efforts and initiatives, Assam State Council has formed sectoral sub-committees for Manufacturing, Tourism, Policy and Taxation, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Agro-Food Processing.
FICCI ASC is been committed to a focused approach to promote first generation entrepreneurship in the state in order to make the state investment ready for competing in manufacturing and services sector with the state’s neighbouring countries as connectivity and linkages improve.

Assam is the second largest and the most populous state in North East Region of India. The state shares border with all North Eastern states except Sikkim. It is also strategically placed as it shares international borders with Bhutan And Bangladesh and offers critical connect between these countries and the North East. Being located closer to the growing ASEAN economies, the state offers great opportunity for trade and investment.
While the economy is primarily agrarian, Industrialisation in Assam dates back to 1833 with the beginning of commercial production of Tea for Exports. It also has the oldest refineries in Asia in a town called Digboi which started production in 1901. Pre Independence it was one of the richest state in India because of the Geo-Strategic connectivity with neighbouring countries and available Tea and Oil resources and a booming inland waterways.
Even today, the state is the largest producer of Tea, contributing to more than 50% of India’s total Tea production. Assam has plentiful natural resources viz. Petroleum, Lime stone, Coal, Water etc. As of today, Assam produces the largest is the largest share of on-shore Petroleum and Gas. Its handloom industry is world famous because of the unique Muga - The golden silk.
The state has been able to attract substantial investments in sectors like, pharmaceuticals, Food Processing, Personal Care products, petro chemicals etc.
From the perspective of Tourism and Natural Flora and Fauna, Assam is Global Bio Diversity hotspot because of the presence of one-horned Indian rhinoceros, wild water buffalo, pygmy hog, tiger and various species of Asiatic birds etc. It is a most sought after destination for tourists and nature enthusiasts. The mighty Brahmaputra River that runs through the state like a spine offers plentiful opportunities for river tourists and further investments in the cruising sector.
31.21 million people comprising of a multi ethnic and rich cultural heritage showcases the diverse fabric of Assam’s population. Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Hindi & English are some of the key languages spoken in the state.
