Today, India is one of the fastest-growing economies in the world. In the current geopolitical scenario, India emerges as a reliable and economical defence manufacturing base for the world. FICCI strongly supports the Government of India’s (GOI) initiatives of ‘Make in India’ and ‘Make for the World’. The Indian defence industry has forged several strategic alliances with foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to manufacture world-class defence equipment in India.
FICCI and the Indian defence and homeland security industry, with the support of the GOI, have further augmented defence R&D and manufacturing capabilities in India. This makes the Indian defence industries poised to contribute substantially to the global defence supply chain. India attaches paramount importance to internal security. Over the past few decades, several initiatives have been taken by the GOI to modernise the CAPFs along with other security establishments. This allows the organisations under Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to remain technologically capable of dealing with all kinds of law & order challenges including cybercrimes, armed violence, online radicalisation, etc.
FICCI is committed to synergetic industry engagement and policy advocacy with the Ministry of Defence, Armed Forces, DRDO, academia, and foreign OEMs to push the government's ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative. FICCI works closely with the relevant stakeholders to build PPP opportunities in the Military MRO sector and equipment sustainment, promote indigenisation and integration of MSMEs, and encourage Startups in the supply chain of OEMs and System Integrators. It aims to work towards defence production and the growth of defence exports.
To promote Indian Defence Industries, FICCI engages in extensive outreach activities such as conducting engagements with Defence Attaches (DAs) of targeted countries and showcasing capabilities for the defence industry through domestic and international exhibitions. The FICCI supports and drives GOI’s various initiatives, such as the Positive Indigenisation List, Production Linked Incentive (PLI), etc. These measures by GOI and FICCI have contributed immensely to fostering the development of new defence startup ecosystems and MSMEs.
FICCI also assists the MHA in policy advocacy and getting industry participation in key areas like Police Modernisation, SMART Policing, Smart Border Management, and through the Safe & Secure Cities program. FICCI also assists the GOI in developing policies for public procurement of CAPF’s equipment and provides inputs on increasing access to testing facilities and other facilities to the private industry in India.
To support India's developmental pathway, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) has amalgamated its Defence and Homeland Security divisions under a single roof. This integration aims to provide a more comprehensive approach to security by combining the expertise and resources of both divisions.
