Conferral of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star, upon Mr Onkar S. Kanwar

New Delhi, 3 November 2018: The Government of Japan announced the foreign recipients of the 2018 Autumn Imperial Decorations. Mr Onkar S. Kanwar is among this year's foreign recipients and in recognition of his contributions to strengthening the economic relations between Japan and India and promoting Japanese companies' entry into the Indian market, Mr Kanwar will receive the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star.

Summary of Mr Kanwar's Contributions

Mr Onkar S. Kanwar has been leading FICCI���'s India-Japan Business Cooperation Committee as Chairman since 2005. Mr. Kanwar actively participated in the discussions that led to the conclusion of the Japan-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). Through the convening of regular joint meetings on business cooperation with the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI), Mr. Kanwar has tremendously contributed to strengthening economic relations between Japan and India and Japanese private investment to India.

 

As Chairman of Apollo Tyres Ltd., Mr. Kanwar has supported the entry of Japanese automotive industries into the Indian market and their market expansion by supplying compatible quality tyres to Japanese manufacturers. Currently, Mr. Kanwar is introducing Total Quality Management (TQM) and other Japanese philosophies to his corporate management.

 

As it delivers the announcement, the Embassy of Japan in India renders homage to Mr. Kanwar's long years of service.
