It's time that we change the narrative from 'Women empowerment' to 'Women In-Powerment': Dr. Bhaskar Das, Group President, Republic Media Network

Mar 30, 2019

MUMBAI, 29 March 2019: FICCI & FICCI Ladies Organization (FLO) jointly with Amway India, yesterday organized a seminar 'Taking Wings: Women's Employment, Entrepreneurship and Empowerment' to deliberate on the subject of having more women in work force, both in jobs as well as in the role of Entrepreneurs.

Dr. Bhaskar Das, Group President, Republic Media Network said, "Women empowerment usually means giving authority and power to do something, indicating that someone's permission is needed to empower a woman. In today's context, it is important that we change the narrative and move from "empowerment" to in-powerment, which essentially, is the process of allowing women to discover the power that already lies within them, rather than giving them external permissions or authorities".

He added, "An in-powered women would be self-aware, allowed to make choices, possess the ability to be self-dependent and in-power others. Therefore, our role is not to actively give women the power, but to provide them with the facilities that help them discover the power that lie within themselves".

Mr. Rajat Banerji, National Head - Corporate Affairs, Amway India said, "Women play an intrinsic role in strengthening the socio-economic landscape, and entrepreneurship is a route that has witnessed tremendous adoption among India's women. We, at Amway India, are proud to have successfully skilled and empowered more than 550,000 distributors in India. The fact that almost 60% of Amway direct sellers are women is a testimony to our commitment and our contribution towards women entrepreneurship. In recent years, India has witnessed a robust economic growth driven by market focused economic reforms favoring entrepreneurship. We believe that fostering an environment of growth and creating viable opportunities for women will not only empower them to realize their full potential but also strengthen the society and economy, overall."
