Aug 07, 2019

NEW DELHI, 7 August 2019: FICCI CASCADE (Committee Against Smuggling and Counterfeiting Activities Destroying the Economy) yesterday organized an interschool meet Zero Evasion to fight the menace of counterfeiting and smuggling.

Around 350 students from more than 50 leading schools in Delhi and other states competed against each other in three categories namely painting, elocution and creative writing on the theme. The program was also supported by FICCI ARISE (Alliance for Re-Imagining School Education).

India's economic growth story has attracted the world's attention bringing new challenges for the domestic economy. One of the major issues for the economy and industry is the uninhibited growth of illicit trade in terms of counterfeiting and smuggling. The market for illegal goods is thriving in India and has become one of the biggest challenges faced by Indian industry.

FICCI's initiative in the form of 'Committee Against Smuggling and Counterfeiting Activities Destroying the Economy (CASCADE)' is a dedicated forum on the agenda of fighting the menace of smuggling and counterfeiting. Over the years, FICCI CASCADE is working on creating awareness on tackling this problem which is a serious menace to public health and safety. Along with policy makers, industry, enforcement officials and media, CASCADE has been working closely with the country's youth in its fight to address this issue through various interschool and intercollege competitions and programs.

FICCI CASCADE believes that it is important to bring the youth onboard the awareness campaign and through them influence the society as a whole. It is a fact that the modern day youngsters are prolific users of networking and communication tools and an idea planted in their minds can become an instrument of change. The objective of such competitions is to increase awareness among young children to fight the menace of fake and spurious goods. This in turn is also expected to inspire them to be socially responsible citizens.

The competitions were judged by Mr Hem Pande, former Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs, Mr PK Malhotra, former Secretary, Law and Justice, Mr Sanjeev Tripathi, former RAW Chief and Mr Deep Chand, Advisor of FICCI CASCADE and former Special Commissioner of Police, New Delhi.
