NEW DELHI, 16 September 2019: FICCI CASCADE will release a detailed report titled - Impact of Smuggling on Indian Economy and Employment, during its annual flagship event MASCRADE 2019 scheduled on 26-27 September in New Delhi. The report will be a compilation of facts and figures on smuggling and adopts a research approach and methodology that estimates the loss of employment and revenue in the five key industries namely: Textiles, Readymade Garment, Tobacco Products (Cigarettes), Capital Goods (Machinery and Parts) and Consumer (Electronics) Durables.

The report further attempts to highlight the key challenges posed by smuggling and the possible solutions needed to make compliance and processes more robust.

Mr Anil Rajput, Chairman, FICCI CASCADE said, "Illicit trade in smuggled, counterfeit and pirated goods is a major threat to the economies. It damages legal business, causes huge financial losses, compromises the safety of the consumers and leaves a gaping hole in the exchequer. MASCRADE (Movement Against Smuggling and Counterfeit Trade) 2019 will provide an effective platform of dialogue and deliberations and an opportunity for joint action between governments, private sector and the enforcement machinery to deal with the menace head on."

The sixth edition of 'MASCRADE 2019 - Movement Against Smuggling and Counterfeit Trade scheduled', a flagship FICCI event, is striving to bring in the best minds from policy making, law, brand protection, industry, enforcement agencies and media, among others to find a holistic and permanent solution to the problem of counterfeiting and smuggling, one which if left unchecked can have a disastrous impact on economies globally.
