FICCI welcomes further policy reforms of the OSP Guidelines announced by the Ministry of Communications

NEW DELHI, 23 June 2021: In order to continue policy reforms aimed at ensuring ease of doing business in the IT/ IT-enabled services/ BPO sector and to establish the country as a preferred Investment Destination, the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications has today further reformed the OSP Guidelines. The BPO segment holds immense growth potential. These Guidelines will further expand the horizons of the Indian BPO, BPM outsourcing industry.

 

The Guidelines has further liberalized the policy framework in additional to the reforms announced in November 2020. The continuation of the policy reforms in the OSPs sector will help promote new job opportunities, encourage an innovation led ecosystem, and support the development of an inclusive and diverse workforce. Some of the main features of liberalized guidelines announced today are:

 

  • Removal of Distinction between Domestic and International OSPs
  • Relaxation in EPABX (Electronic Private Automatic Branch Exchange) Rules
  • Remote Agents of OSP can now connect directly with the Centralized EPABX/ EPABX of the OSP
  • Relaxation on Interconnectivity between OSPs Centers

Welcoming the government's announcement, Mr Virat Bhatia, Chairman, FICCI ICT Committee stated, "Liberalization of the OSP Guidelines today will provide a big stimulus for growth of OSP industry in India, further creating immense opportunities, income and employment for the country."
