NEW DELHI, 24 October 2021: FICCI deeply mourns the demise of one of its Past Presidents, Mr Kantikumar R Podar. Mr Poddar was the President of FICCI during the year 1992-93. He passed away in Mumbai after a prolonged illness this afternoon.
Mr Podar took over the Presidentship of FICCI at the time of the Economic Reforms introduced by the Government when India faced a severe economic crisis due to external debt. Under his leadership FICCI organized several high-level conferences, seminars and workshops as a part of the project on economic reforms. As President of FICCI, Mr Podar generated a new awakening on economic reforms across the country.
FICCI also undertook a major project on 'successful implementation of Industrial Policy Reforms' with the support of USAID, during his Presidency.
Mr Podar was also instrumental in spreading the wings of FICCI in State Capitals. FICCI opened its first State Council in Mumbai during his leadership. These offices helped FICCI to work closely with the Regional Chambers and Industry Associations in different States and guide them in their initiatives.
Mr Podar has left an indelible mark on
FICCI, which he so eminently steered in 1992-93. In his demise, not only FICCI
has lost one of its great supporters, but the country has also lost one of the
stalwarts of Indian Industry.
