Gujarat is the port of first choice for the entire industry: Narayan Rane 

 

GANDHINAGAR. 12 January 2024: Addressing the Valedictory Session of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024, Union Home Minister, Mr Amit Shah, underlined its significance in the 'Sankalp se Siddhi' pathway. He stated, "Today, India is the most sought-after destination worldwide, with Gujarat as its most preferred state." Shah attributed this success to reforms that are transforming India. He said that India is on its way to becoming a pioneer in key global economic sectors, including EV, green hydrogen, biofuels, space, digital infrastructure, FinTech, and semiconductor manufacturing. He urged the industry to engage with India's green hydrogen mission, backed by a Rs 20,000 crore outlay.  

CM Gujarat, Mr Bhupendrabhai Patel, highlighted that the Vibrant Gujarat Global Trade Show has provided a platform for emerging sectors such as Blue Economy, E-Mobility, Defense & Aerospace, Drone Technology, Green Fields, and Ports. “Gujarat has been the first state to launch its roadmap of a “Viksit Gujarat 2047” in line with PM Modi’s vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047,” he added.  

On occasion, Mr Pankaj Patel, Past President, FICCI and Chairman, Zydus Lifesciences, noted that the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit has united global institutions, investors, strategists, and entrepreneurs, fostering dialogues and collaborations. Patel emphasised Gujarat's global stature as an investment-friendly destination with a focused ecosystem for economic growth, industrial development, and infrastructure. He announced that Zydus Lifesciences has entered into multiple MoUs, committing Rs 5000 crores towards next-generation biotechnology products, new medical device initiatives, and hospital projects.  

Earlier during the 3rd day of Vibrant Gujarat 2024, Union Minister Mr Narayan Tatu Rane spoke at the MSME Conclave and reinforced Gujarat’s status as a key industrial hub and the primary port of choice for the industry. He emphasised Gujarat's crucial role in India's economy, with a population of 5%, Gujarat astonishingly contributes 8.3% towards our national GDP and 18% to the industrial output. A significant 33% of India's exports are handled through Gujarat's ports. It is noteworthy that the State's 16 lakh registered MSMEs, which is 7% of India's total, are particularly generating the highest employment in India.  

On the occasion, CM Mr Bhupendra Patel in his inaugural address during the MSME conclave emphasised that the vision of his government is to focus on promoting MSMEs, which has been well emphasised by all our dignitaries in their speeches. He said that MSMEs should be given all big platforms to excel. 

Mr. Harshbhai Sanghavi, Gujarat's Minister of State for Industry, commended the MSME sector for its role in shaping Gujarat's success. He highlighted a 63% increase in employment between 2017-2022. He emphasised that MSMEs form a crucial part of social infrastructure and assured that the government is dedicated to showcasing MSMEs at every platform during the event, alongside attracting large investments. Mr Balvantsinh Rajput, Minister of Industries, Government of Gujarat, also spoke, highlighting the path-breaking measures of the state government which has reached even the smallest of the businesses. He mentioned that more than 45000 cr ppl from across Gujarat have benefited from Vibrant Gujarat till now. 

Mr Rajiv Gandhi, Chairman of the FICCI Gujarat State Council and CEO of Hester Biosciences, emphasised the significance of an 'ease of living' environment for the growth of MSMEs, alongside financial incentives and infrastructure. He pointed out that such qualitative factors, often more crucial than financial aspects, are essential for MSMEs, which typically lack the resources to independently create a conducive environment. Gandhi lauded Gujarat for providing such an environment, deeming it a major incentive for MSMEs in the state.  

Mr Girish Luthra, President, FICCI Confederation of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (CMSME), commended the proactive and collaborative efforts of the industry and government, highlighting the alignment of these efforts with the national initiatives 'Make in India' and 'Viksit Bharat’.  Dr Harjinder Talwar, VP, FICCI CMSME, alluded to the announcements on large investments during this 10th edition of Vibrant Gujarat, stating, “It's a no-brainer that MSMEs will play a crucial role in feeding this huge ecosystem. Large industries need MSMEs and MSMEs need them. It’s a handshake that we have to achieve.” 

During the state sessions, Madhya Pradesh's leaders underscored the state's commitment to facilitating business growth. Mr Chetanya Kumar Kasyap, Minister of the Department of MSME, highlighted bespoke, time-efficient policies for businesses. Dr. Navneet Mohan Kothari,  

Secretary, Industrial Policy & Investment Promotion & MD, MPIDC, introduced the 'Start Your Business in 30 Days' initiative, aimed at expediting business processes. Mr Saurabh Mishra of the FICCI MP Panel on Start-up and Innovation emphasised burgeoning opportunities in sectors like chemicals, power, and MSMEs, attributing this to the state's forward-looking policies and strong infrastructure. 

At the session on investment and trade opportunities in Northeast India, senior government officials presented the investment potential across various sectors in northeastern states. Mr Chanchal Kumar, Secretary Ministry of DONER while making the introductory remarks highlighted the strategic location of the region and the fast improving regional connectivity and connectivity with neighbouring countries. He urged the industry to take the first-mover advantage. Mr Paban Barthakur, Chief Secretary, Assam,  highlighted the success story of Assam as an investment destination and elucidated at length on the important policy initiatives of the state government to attract investments. Mr Dharmendra, Chief Secretary, Arunachal Pradesh spoke about the investment potential in key sectors like tourism, agro-food processing, among others. He gave an overview of the state government policies and presented specific details of investment opportunities and land availability in the state. Dr Shakil Ahammed, Additional Chief Secretary of the Government of Meghalaya, emphasised the need for a collaborative approach in marketing, infrastructure development, and processing. He advocated for a collective strategy focusing on long-term infrastructure, including roadways and multimodal developments, to facilitate product evacuation. Highlighting Meghalaya's investment prospects, Dr Ahammed specifically pointed to the state's potential in tourism, among other sectors.  

Dr. Lalrozama, Secretary of Tourism, Government of Mizoram, highlighted Mizoram's rapid GSDP growth, high literacy rate, and hydroelectric potential. He also identified food processing, skill development, and tourism as key sectors, positioning Mizoram as the gateway to Southeast Asia. Dr. Hukugha Sema, Commissioner & Secretary of Nagaland, emphasised Nagaland's peaceful environment and opportunities in food processing, tourism, bamboo, and water policy, showcasing local products like Ghost Pepper and Nagaland Pineapple. 

Mr CS Rao, Principal Secretary of Tourism & Civil Aviation, Government of Sikkim, focused on organic products and diverse tourism offerings, including rural homestays and adventure tourism. Mr Gitte Kirankumar Dinkarrao, Secretary of Industries and Commerce, Government of Tripura, spoke about increasing trade with Bangladesh, and opportunities in sectors like BPO, tourism, and agro-processing. Mr Natu Patel, Co-Chair, FICCI Gujarat State Council, also spoke on occasion.
