But, with the population reaching 1.3 billion, India has disproportionately high 21% of the global disease burden. The Government spending on healthcare, estimated to be little over 1% of the GDP, has not kept pace with the growing population and disease burden. Changing disease patterns, shifting focus from curative to preventive care and increasing urban-rural divide in the healthcare service availability and quality are demanding transformation in the healthcare sector.
