- The Indian pharmaceutical industry is the world's third largest by volume and fourteenth largest in terms of value.
- The COVID-19 pandemic has shown that India can not only innovate but also rapidly distribute time-critical drugs to every part of the globe.
- Indian medicines are preferred worldwide because of the low price and high quality, thereby rightly making the country the “pharmacy of the world”.
- Globally the country is the largest provider of generic drugs with a 20 percent share by volume and is known for its affordable vaccines and generic medications.
FICCI Pharma: Key Activities
- FICCI Pharma Team work closely with the government on policy issues, enhancing efficiency, competitiveness and expanding business opportunities for industry through a range of specialized services and global linkages. It also provides a platform for sector specific consensus building and networking. It has been actively involved in organizing stakeholder consultations/Roundtable Meetings, conferences and seminars, providing an opportunity for interaction between the industry and the policy makers, to identify the various impediments to the growth and functioning of the industry and to come out with prospective solutions.
- FICCI in partnership with the Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP), Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers organizes the "India Pharma and India Medical Devices" annual flagship event in the pharma & Medical Device sector. This event provides a unique platform to the stakeholders to deliberate and address key issues, identify challenges and chart a road map for India to take a rightful place as a preferred destination of choice for Drug Discovery, Research & Development and Manufacturing to become globally competitive.
