FICCI - Lakshmikumaran and Sridharan Attorneys Report on Strengthening Sports Federations

With the results of the Commonwealth Games 2010, and success of the Indian Premier League, the I-League and the Badminton Indian Super Series, India is slowly taking its steps towards becoming a global sports power. Therefore much is being discussed in India on the aspect of the governance of the National Olympic Committee and the National Sports Federation paving the way for introduction of the National Sports Development Bill, 2011. This paper is a reference for sports federations to undertake an internal study on their governance structure and the challenges for inculcating and maintaining greater governance norms as adopted by sports fraternity worldwide in order to be at par with the more professionally organized sports federations.
