Biodiversity and ecosystem form the “invisible” backbone of our economy, livelihood and life on Earth. Nearly 50% of the global GDP depends heavily on nature with several key industries like food, infrastructure, clothing, pharmaceuticals, tourism, etc. depending on it for procurement of raw materials. The Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) was adopted in 2022 at the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) COP 15, setting out an ambitious pathway to reach the global vision of a world living in harmony with nature by 2050. In adopting the KMGBF, India has committed to updating the existing National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAPs) and adopting National Biodiversity Targets (NBTs) in line with the KMGBF global goals and targets.

As part of the efforts towards ensuring representation of the private sector in the process of updating the NBSAP and adopting the NBTs in alignment with the KMGBF, MoEF&CC, NBA and UNDP in collaboration with FICCI are organizing a Consultation Meeting on “Biodiversity Conservation through Corporate Action: Updation of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan and the National Biodiversity Targets” on 9 May 2024 at Federation House, New Delhi.
