Overview
India faces significant vulnerability to various natural and man-made disasters. Many of these challenges possess strong spatial components making Geospatial Technologies and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) an essential tool for improving decision-making processes. In today’s rapidly evolving world, technologies such as GIS, Remote Sensing (RS) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) have become indispensable in disaster management and the associated decision-making processes.
In the face of large-scale disasters, the demand for detailed geospatial information about impacted areas, infrastructure and resource needs becomes critical. The advancements in Geospatial Technologies have greatly enhanced collaboration and operational efficiency among agencies engaged in disaster response and management. GIS technology empowers stakeholders and businesses to quickly identify and evaluate vulnerabilities, exposures and weaknesses. By leveraging Geospatial Technologies & GIS, businesses can effectively manage risks associated with disruptions, encompassing health and safety liabilities, productivity losses due to downtime, loss of work to competitors, supply chain failures and more.
To address this need for sensitization, build capacities and creating awareness in the area of Disaster Risk Management & Mitigation FICCI is organizing a Seminar on “Role of Geospatial Technologies for Disaster Risk Mitigation & Management”. The broad objective the seminar is to work towards capacity building, improved disaster preparedness, risk reduction, mitigation, and emergency response capabilities by working in close collaboration with Ministries and Departments of the Government of India and State Governments, Corporate Sector, Academia, UN/International Agencies and other associated stakeholders.
