Health insurance has tremendous socio-economic significance, and it impacts financial well-being of households. Independent household coverage of health insurance has been very low in India and as a result individuals and households in India pay 63% of all hospitalization cost out of their own pocket and this high out of pocket expense is seen as a major concern. Given the rising medical inflation in the country, health insurance is increasingly being viewed as a mitigating factor.
